Ontario Teachers Names New Director of Equities

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board has named Karen Frank as its new senior managing director of equities.

Beginning in Fall 2020, Ms. Frank will lead the group’s equities department and will report to Chief Investment Officer Ziad Hindo. She will be based in Ontario Teachers’ London, UK office. Ms. Frank will succeed the current head of equities Jane Rowe, who will take on the new role of Vice-Chair of Investments at Ontario Teachers’ beginning on October 1, 2020.

Ms. Frank’s career includes more than 25 years of experience in investment banking and private equity. She joins Ontario Teachers from Barclays, where she was the CEO of Barclays Private Bank since 2016, and previously was the co-head of its European Sponsors Group. Earlier in her career, she held senior roles at Goldman Sachs, and at AEA Investors and Compass Partners International.

At year-end 2019, the Ontario Teachers’ equities team managed $47 billion in assets, with a portfolio that included more than 60 private companies, numerous investments in public companies, and relationships with more than 30 private equity funds.

Karen brings to the role significant leadership skills, diverse thinking, and in-depth knowledge of global markets that will help us continue to scale our business internationally and build on our track record of success,” said Mr. Hindo.

Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario Teachers is one of Canada’s largest and most active pension investors with C$207 billion in assets under management. The group has additional offices in Hong Kong and London.
