Trinity Hunt Builds Forensic Engineering Platform

Forensic Engineering Services, a portfolio company of Trinity Hunt Partners, has acquired Scientific Analysis.

Scientific Analysis (SAI) is a provider of forensic engineering services used in accident reconstruction. The company provides a range of investigation, measurement, analysis, reconstruction, and presentation services including scale models and photorealistic animations. SAI was founded in 1990 by President Steve Irwin and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

Trinity Hunt formed Forensic Engineering Services (FES) in August 2019 to acquire WEXCO International, a provider of litigation-focused forensic services. WEXCO was founded in 1969 and has investigated over 10,000 cases, provided more than 2,000 depositions, and testified in over 600 trials. The company is headquartered in Marina del Rey, California with additional offices in Berkeley, California and Cedar Park, Texas.

“Our partnership with FES, WEXCO and Trinity Hunt is the next step in our continued maturation as a company,” said Mr. Irwin. “Our partnering has created a larger organization in which SAI’s team members can continue their own growth and provides them a larger company in which to pursue a wider array of professional interests. The FES leadership has zeroed in on providing excellent service to the client base we’ve worked the last 30 years to create, and the SAI team looks forward helping this larger group achieve its goals.”

“We are excited to welcome our new SAI colleagues to the FES team,” said Robert Joyce, Jr., the president and CEO of FES. “It is a true privilege to partner with someone of Steve’s professionalism and experience, as well as to have the opportunity to work with a group as talented and experienced as SAI. This is a major milestone in our evolution, and we are looking forward to unleashing the full client value creation potential of our combined organizations.”

With the buy of SAI closed, FES now has its headquarters in Arlington, Texas, with additional locations in Dallas and Cedar Park, Texas, and Marina del Rey and Berkeley, California.

“FES’s partnership with SAI is a perfect example of our intention to build a diversified, forensic engineering services leader with a passionate focus on exceptional service quality for our clients and extraordinary work experience for our employees,” said Pete Stein, managing partner of Trinity Hunt.

Dallas-based Trinity Hunt invests in founder and family-owned companies that have EBITDAs between $4 million and $25 million. Sectors of interest include business services, industrial growth, non-cyclical consumer products, and healthcare services. In September 2018, Trinity Hunt held a final closing of its fifth fund, Trinity Hunt Partners V LP, with an oversubscribed $350 million of capital commitments. The new fund exceeded its initial target of $300 million and closed at its hard cap.
