A Rant: if(CFO == CTO) { alert(“That’s risky business!”); }

A number of small-to-medium sized businesses assign technology decision making to their CFOs. This is unfortunate. Technology is an essential component of every business today and creates competitive advantages. Most CFOs have no background in implementing and building technology and therefore lack important context from which strategic technology decisions for their businesses can be made. This isn’t the CFO’s fault. Winging technology decisions with a CFO doesn’t justify the long-term risks of getting those decisions wrong. There’s too much at stake. Take the positive ROI step of hiring an experienced technology professional to drive your technology decision making process. Take that burden off the CFO and let her/him get back to doing the things that CFOs do best.
